Emerging Careers in the Region and Beyond

MID-EAST CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY CENTERS
RECEIVE $1.3 MILLION GRANT

The truck driver shortage across the country is no secret.

Career truck drivers are in demand and training for them is scarce, Mid-East Career and Technology Centers are doing their part to address this shortage as they begin the work of managing a $1.3 million grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission as well as significant funds from local entities.

The new program will significantly impact the shortage across the region, state, and nation.

HIGHER EDUCATION ENCOURAGING
CAREER EXPLORATION

Higher Education is encouraging students to consider a variety of careers as they go through their campus experiences. Not every student who attends a higher education institution has made a firm decision regarding career choice.

We will hear from our higher education partners who are contributing to the development of the work force and encouraging students to examine various career options.

Through a significant federal grant, Muskingum University has established the campus Impact Center. On September 30, the Impact Center of held a large campus conference bringing together undergraduate students and successful alumni representing various careers.

Molly Dunn, Impact Center Director at MU, shared the Progress of the Impact Center and the recent Conference.

CENTRAL OHIO ANTICIPATES CHANGES FOR
CAREERS, HOUSING, WORKFORCE, EDUCATION,
AND OTHER THINGS TO BE DETERMINED

Central Ohio is awaiting the impact that Intel will have as they indicate they will add approximately 3,000 new jobs to the region.

The impact it will have is almost immeasurable at this point with questions surrounding new housing, work force development for the new positions, schools being able to handle the influx of new families and students.

Matt Abbott, Executive Director, of the Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority shared current information and thinking on the possible impact to our region.

Imagine the new careers this will encourage!
