“10 STARS”  Business Advisory Councils
Three Appalachian Business Advisory Councils have received state recognition (collectively 10 stars) for their efforts in collaborative work joining business and education.  You will hear perspectives of a single district council, a collaborative educational council, and a community council.  Presenters include: the BB2C Executive Director, Tasha Werry;  Justin Denius,  Workforce Development Coordinator  Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center; and  Beth Warner, Career Pathways Coach. Noble Local Schools.
 

K-6 Focus – Regional Partnership Grant Progress Report
AOP-20, OVESC, MVESC, and Mid-East Career and Technology Centers (MECTC) are recipients of a partnership grant awarded by Ohio Department of Education. The goal of the grant is to develop and deliver career awareness experiences for students K-6.  MECTC has developed the curriculum and is currently piloting the  program with elementary schools in 3 area school districts,  Zanesville City Schools, Crooksville Exempted Village, and Noble Local Schools.
At least one pilot has been completed, and we will have a progress report on the student activities.
 

April 21 – KEY Summit
Mark your calendar for the  AOP-20 final meeting of the year.  It will be our first ever attempt at partnering with other organizations to sponsor a larger event around regional efforts for work force development and student opportunities. Dean Hannah Nissen of Ohio University Zanesville has offered to host the gathering on campus. It is a big step for AOP-20, and we look forward to this collaborative opportunity.  A planning team is involved in the details and will share information at the meeting.

Workforce Challenges in K-12 Education
A regional collaborative of leadership in K-12 and Higher Education is considering possible strategies to respond to regional shortages of K-12 personnel and to bolster the future workforce of educators.   A panel of regional leaders from K-12 and higher education will share their perspectives about topics such as Grow Your Own, Internships, Apprenticeships and other possibilities.  Dr. Tim Slekar of Muskingum University,  Director of Educator Preparation and Education Department Chair, will facilitate the panel discussion.
